The great thing about finances is that they involve numbers and numbers don't lie. Gorka is. I have little. But sure, better service should be rewarded I guess I still don't want waiters pretending to be my "servant", kissing up I hated them being treated as "servants".
Oh well, that is "working class me" I guess. I understand where you are coming from. But everything is relative. For a lot of people, lower-end chain restaurants really are nice. For them, eating out normally means fast food or pizza. Something very simple and comparatively cheap. Growing up, we seldom ate out. If we did, it was usually a place like McDonalds. We were bumpkins and of limited means. It's not a "silly assumption" at all.
It's an expected part of the meal, and has been for probably hundreds of years. The IRS assumes that you are receiving tips, and you have to pay taxes whether you actually get the tip or not. Posted by: SMH at the wonder of His birth at December 22, PM vcwBL I believe it's long been known that blue collar workers tend to be better tippers than those who make a lot of money. Sort of amusing: My late dad was a terrible tipper, even after he started making a decent wage.
Later on in life, it was sort of amusing to hear him complain about some of the lousy tips he got when he was driving limo after he retired. Posted by: Cicero Lowly Miklos can only aspire to be a Nave.
It's part of a great experience,. The Fabulous Mrs. Hum and I recently stopped at restaurant we hadn't been to since before the Kung Flu lockdown. Alcohol makes me generous. They are trying to destroy everything Trump because they know what's coming if they don't.
We weren't bumpkins exactly but we were pretty poor. I still don't want waiters pretending to be my "servant", kissing up I don't like obsequiousness, either. I do expect them to notice when my drink is empty, that we've all pushed our plates away and are now ready for either dessert or the check, that something has spilled Posted by: ZOD venerated. That is the baseline. If you want more, then do a better job.
We know we cook better at home. My wife makes outstanding enchiladas and a chicken stew that is to die for. Great, now I'm hungry. I wanted to thank you for your suggestion of CB brandy. It's all I could find from the list provided by the Horde the other night. I do like it and it'll be enjoyed by itself or with cigars. The handful of times I've been to an Applebees I was never impressed with any of the staff, bartenders, wait staff and the kitchen staff.
Any student of AoS history will know why. Bring the proton packs. So what? I tip in cash explicitly to give them that option. No one is getting rich as a waiter. Posted by: Misanthropic Humanitarian Pure hobbyist and moron And some other stuff. The name of Applebees is etched into HQ legend. Now lets talk about hookers and drug dealers that also don't pay taxes, or strippers and those five spots in the g-string?
But drug dealers have to pay off cops and politicians, so that is kinda like a tax, right? I usually leave a tip for the maid with thank you note after a hotel stay. Oh and I tip the cost cutter or other chain folks when I get my hair cut.
Posted by: San Franpsycho at December 22, PM EZebt Not gonna lie, my weekly restaurant outings vanished almost overnight once I learned how to do a decent steak on an electric grill.
Posted by: Just a side note at December 22, PM aUP71 I do at the pizza joint near me because the guy at the cash register looks like such a scrawny kid that I feel sorry for him. Also, their pizza is great. It's not fantastic, but it is well made and worth the money Under time pressure I bought my Dad a bottle of Woodford Reserve. I didn't discover the error until later that day. I figured the waiter probably though i was sweet on him, so I crossed that place off my list of lunch spots.
Posted by: Some Rat Shoot. A fella could have a pretty good time in Vegas with all that. That is ridiculous. As I understand it, most hair salons work the same way as most taxicabs.
Mom liked quality, but was very thrifty out of necessity. A dichotomy. Ancient Age was always the whisky. Sounds like a cool place.
Once upon a time I rented a house with 2 other guys. There was a "Coke" machine in it. We had 3 flavors of beer in it. Thank you for the ONT post. Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo Taxes? Why not? Rich people do it all the time.
Oh, I guess it's not technically not "cheating" if you can afford accountants and tax attorneys to figure out some way to make it legal. But it happens all the same.
Merry Christmas to you and yours. Thank you. You guys are sweethearts. My daughter invited me to a dachshund lover group on FB. I made 2 bracelets with little doxie charms and posted it. My freaking FB messenger exploded. I sold 10 yesterday and have at least 20 more interested in buying. I'm not only happy and feel blessed but I'm kind of laughing my ass off too. These doxie people are serious!
Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo You have a point. It would be intolerable. She would take home a night. That was in the late 80's early 90's. Get off my lawn. Back when I delivered pizzas 30 years ago I would sometimes get a tip, which was nice, sometimes not. I wouldn't lose my shit over it.
My local liquor store had a couple of brands but the CB was the only one mentioned that was in stock. Yes, it is a small town. It'll be an interesting experiment. Farmer I like the Woodford Reserve. It's quite good. Just my 0. Did you get the double oaked? Given the prices being cited, it sounds like a non-standard bottle of some sort. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at December 22, PM bW8dp Hopefully the rates aren't as utterly corrupt and predatory as medallion cities.
Reading about some of the crap that goes on in the taxi world is a great way to get to thinking that Uber is the good guys for trying to burn it all down to the waterline. So because waiters get cash tips they should be allowed to cheat, but because I am honest I get screwed? Sorry, I am no fan of the government, but cheating is cheating. They are certainly the top of of their profession though. Me, not so much. They should be owned, and their owners should pay property tax on them.
Or cheat on the property tax that they should pay on them. Children born into servitude should be assessed for 'human capital gains tax. I have a niece that used to make "gourmet" dog treats. It ain't just the doxie owners that'll spend big bucks on their pups.
Posted by: Misanthropic Humanitarian Heh! Mine is the old "gage runner" style, and I was going to stock it with beer and wine spitzer's Agreed, you can make a good living in a place like that. Maybe even upper middle class, though that's probably pushing it.
But you're not gonna be Elon Musk. However, the case in point is a server at Applebees. The typical amount made there is Whether individuals at the low levels are getting "rich" is not really the problem. And some higher end waiters do pretty well, and skip most of the taxes.
Better than the average grunt perhaps doing harder work. But the whole "service industry" and the illegals and tax avoidance Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo You are not being honest, someone is required to be honest report income on your behalf. The only question is did the waiter do a good job? Oddly I've had an argument with a few girlfriends over this - if you can't afford to tip at a place, don't go there to eat.
Pick up food though? I rarely tip. They are handing you the food A complicated order, or to be honest a pretty smile, does change that sometime though. Do not sell yourself short. It would be intolerable Posted by: Rich people. They aren't cheating. And people who make their money waiting tables don't need accountants because tax law is simpler at those income levels. Even when you make one out on the level you don't know when it's through if you are a crook or a martyr.
But let us panic anyway. Cuz fuck it why not? I'd rather Wendy Waitress gets an extra unreported couple of bucks then Joe Biden. Shouldn't waiters and all other restaurant staff fall under the Clinton exemption of "Eatin' ain't cheatin'!
These people are losing their shit. I don't know if that's even made anymore. I have picked up a bourbon hobby with several made in Montana. Tasty, not too overpowering but, I have to go to MT to buy it. I stocked up this summer and won't have to return until next summer. I have few vices and very little money so I'm careful about quality. I think Uncle Sam sucks. He gets his share off my paycheck. I like to pay my farrier cash when I planned ahead and have it; and I like to tip in cash when its semi-convenient.
They still have to pay taxes or Sam's revenuer agents will get them, but if they forget to record a service visit or a tip here and there, that is a bit less for Sam to waste on his bullshit. I don't have any grandkids and the dogs piss and moan they don't have thumbs. That is the social contract. If you dine out and not tip you are an asshole. Many bars and restaurants were short staffed and the people that showed up worked their asses off.
I have nothing against over tipping people whove earned it. Had I a larcenous personality I would have opened a small business. And I don't cheat on my taxes. Most of my sales at my shows are cash but I still report it all to the state. My husbands worst fear is getting audited.
I keep everything in my notebook and no I don't have to.. But I still do it. Call me silly, but that means something to some of us. Posted by: CppThis Yup. Also, it has a bit to do with not wanting to eat so much. If not, you are the sucker. The current government hates the middle class and is trying to wipe it out. I don't drink it much, but like to keep stocked. I knew a couple of people who worked at high end restaurants similar to Ruth's Chris.
They really rake it in. That's why they are trying to killit. I can't keep up with the damn doxie people!! The gal at Applebees should shut her fucking pie hole. She got a tip. Maybe not as much as she wanted. But still a tip.
She should work on her manners and get of Tik Tok. Our taxes are pretty simple, but, I'm not about to risk having the IRS on our necks, because I missed something.
You done good, sir. Quite nice bourbon, and the discounted price is pretty much the going price, 'round here. Woodford Reserve is one of my first recommendations for a first-step-up in the Bourbon hierarchy.
An strong lateral suggestion from the "Jim Beam" level, is to upgrade within the 'Beam line, and go with Jim Beam Black. Higher proof, longer aging. For a few bucks more, it's a fair value for the dollar.
Yeah, you do. They're the ones who get to spend your tax money. They're the ones who will send men with guns to your house to collect it if necessary. That stopped last Dec. I will be able to do my own taxes again. For the content all year round. A true gift that gives. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia Wait staff are required to report their tips to their employer. The amount is on the W2. No one likely reports actual amounts received. With possible exceptions for very high budget establishments that they suspect are under reporting they won't waste audit dollars on a wait person.
If they think tips are being under reported they will go after the employer. Bigger pockets and opportunities for penalty dollars. The IRS is very cost conscious in regards to audits. It was a nice gesture, but definitely not expected. I am so remiss! May this Holiday season find you well and at peace. I truly respect and admire you all.
Teresa and her marvelous husband. She might have some prior experience in her college days, right? Should we level the playing field and start to steal? The last time I checked, the 10 Commandments didn't have a rider that said, "except if the government sucks. So you're saying there's IRS paperwork involved, in addition to the actual serving work. I'm not sure how that justifies paying them less?
All under the table. I paid not a dime in taxes from that job. And that suited me just fine. I doubt the owners reported any income to the state or feds, lol. And most likely had no licenses to operate. Fun times. I may have one or two shots a week. Cigars now, and coffee, those have kept the 'Rona away for certain.
Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at December 22, PM bW8dp I tipped the delivery people who delivered my tv and they acted really shocked. Sexual acts I'm shocked shocked I say! Pay taxes, yes. Own me, no. God bless you, Rodrigo. Posted by: Misanthropic Humanitarian She could probably deduct the cost of a pair of the hottest new Air Jordans as business expense, unless her employer supplies those. When two or three people are working their ass off in a Wendy's to deliver food they deserve a bit more.
You are convincing me that me tipping in cash may lead indirectly someone else to cheat on their taxes, and I need to think about that!
On the other hand, I don't believe any of "our" tax dollars are used for truly good purposes, and have fasr too often wound up in places like Fauci's WuHan playground, or abusing beagles, so why should I help to feed the beast? I read this over lunch, and don't want to get worked up.
But I do want to thank mis. CBD too, even though he is one of those tax-loving "conservatives " I kid. Oh yeah, WD and BT too. You actually tipped someone in Monopoly money?
Actually costs me a bit less. I don't know if they declare every red cent they get or not. None of my damn business. Actually I only started cash for my farrier when the IRS came with the stupid low cutoff for having to file for money paid out for services and suppliers. Posted by: exdem13 Someone help me out here - I'm troubled by the entire incident.
To wit; I assume the cops were off duty. The Lt displayed an astounding lack of good judgement. So did Ms. Would I trust either one of them, knowing about the lap dancing, to act as professionals when policing? But does that matter? Punishment, if any, I supposed depends on department rules and policies. But what would be right? That is where I struggle. That was decades ago. IMO one of the better companies out there.
I personally spoke with Matthew there , he was very upfront with me and he explained everything i needed to know about debt management programs available for me ,. I received the same notice in the mail recently. It also lists this as "Information Bureaus". The other company on the flyer listed is the "Fair Debt Assessment Department". It receives an "F" rating on the same scale. The address listed on my flyer was the address of the consulting group, not the debt counseling company.
All in all, it seems rather shady to me. Of course, this is just my two cents. Being a web developer, I've worked with a couple debt settlement companies. In working with them, I've learned that the BBB is actually biased. Being a debt settlement, credit counseling, debt management company automatically dings your BBB rating.
